A Traditional Way of Celebration
Every year this festival falls on a full moon day called as Shravan Purnima as per the Hindu calendar which generally come in the month of August. On this day all the sisters get up early in the morning get fresh and offer prayers to God, it is a Hindu tradition where the sisters prepare a Pooja Thali (call as Aarti) where it is placed with a kumkum powder, Diya, rice, a Rakhi and sweets making the brother feel all the very much important. After this she prays to God and ties the Rakhi on the brother’s right hand, where she prays for the well-being and the evil and in return the brother promises to protect her from all kinds of difficulties and problems. There is a custom of giving gifts from the brother to the sister after she ties the Rakhi. This unique festival creates a feeling of belongingness and oneness in the family.
